Kazani is a family-run, pagan luxury beauty business created by daughter-father team Selmin and Ali Karatas. Their story begins with the opulent, ancient Pagan and Mediterranean recipes that have been passed down for generations in the Karatas family.
The natural, rich ingredients present in Kazani formulas have been essential to the Karatas family for many decades. As a child, Selmin spent beautiful, dazzling summers along the coast of the Turkish Mediterranean basking in all of the rare history and splendor the land has to offer, running barefoot in the grass, picking olives from the trees, and learning about the dynamics of rural life.
As she visited, surrounded by generations of family members, she was often captivated by the stories of her descendants using the Mediterranean land’s natural ingredients to protect their hair and skin from the elements, sustain their bodies, create thicker, fuller hair, smooth skin, and beyond. After Selmin grew older, she longed for ways to bring the nourishing luxury of her family’s Pagan beauty routines to a wider global audience and consumer.
To do so, she enlisted the help of her father, Ali, a widely regarded professional French chef who worked in Manhattan, New York for over 40 years for some of the city’s most high-end establishments, politicians, and celebrities. Trained under the guidance of world renowned chef Paul Bocuse, Ali was taught to value quality and ingredient above all, which directly translated into his work developing Kazani offerings.
After retiring, Ali wanted to find new, innovative ways to introduce the world to his family’s ancestral and cultural Pagan recipes. He began by studying alternative family formulas to help soothe the hair and skin, incorporating fresh ingredients like wildflowers, oils, and mountain herbs native to the Mediterranean that have been used forever.
Together, Ali and Selmin ultimately developed Kazani’s potent, patent-pending oil and serum formulas using cold-pressed, small batches with consideration and passion handcrafted into every bottle. Above all, Selmin and Ali want to introduce others to these timeless formulas so that the Kazani community may experience the luxury that is Mediterranean care.
Kazani is named after the traditional copper kettle used for millennia in the Mediterranean over an open fire to slowly prepare remedies and formulas. While Kazani products are not made using this ancient method, the namesake aims to symbolize the thought, consideration, and passion behind each and every small-batch product made, using only the purest and most potent ingredients to elevate the hair and skin’s natural composition.
Kazani’s goal is to share time-tested Mediterranean processes that help revitalize and rejuvenate the hair and skin through plant, herbal, and oil-sourced natural remedies. By bringing these lavish traditional formulas to the modern world, Kazani aims to be the bridge from the past to the future.
That said, Kazani is also dedicated to creating sustainability for future generations by donating a portion of proceeds to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, an environmental organization that specifically works to conserve Mediterranean plants, which account for 40 percent of the world’s oxygen and over 25,000 species such as olives and vines.
Combining the latest science with the traditional knowledge of local communities, the IUCN works to reverse habitat loss, restore ecosystems, and improve global well-being.
