What is a Good Hair Care Routine?

There are a lot of components that go into keeping your hair healthy. Lifestyle habits such as diet and stress play a big role on your hair, but so do the products that you use on your hair. Finding the right hair care routine for your hair and remaining consistent with it will help improve the quality of your hair.

  • Establish your hair type

The first step to a successful hair routine is to figure out what hair type you have so then you can use products that cater to that hair type. Oprah Winfrey’s stylist, Andre Walker, created a system that classifies hair into four types: Straight or Type 1, Wavy or Type 2, Curly or Type 3, and Coily or Type 4.2 Besides Type 1, each hair type has three subcategories based on the tightness of the curl: A, B, or C.2 Identifying what type of hair you have can help you buy the correct products, which will then bring out the best in your hair.

  • Identify specific hair concerns you have

The next step is to determine any specific hair concerns that you have and incorporate products that tackle those specific concerns. For example, one common concern is the condition of your scalp, and whether or not it is oily or dry.3 People with an oily scalp will look to wash their hair more often, whereas people with dry hair will prefer not to shampoo as often to maintain moisture.3 Other hair concerns that many people deal with is having dry or damaged ends, frizziness, and experiencing dandruff and/or build up in the scalp. These are all concerns that will need to be treated differently by using different products.

  • Distinguish hair-related habits you do regularly and how they might impact your hair

The last step in evaluating your hair is distinguishing any habits that may impact the quality of your hair. For example, coloring or bleaching your hair on a regular basis can decrease your hair quality and cause dryness and damage.1 Also, frequently using heat and styling tools on your hair, especially without proper care, will cause damage as well.1 These are factors that play into your hair health, and they are things that can be tackled using the right routine.

Moving on to the products, there are many different products on the market that you can evaluate to create the best hair care routine for your hair:

  • Hair Oil

Hair oils are a very versatile product that can be used before or after your shower. Hair oiling is a technique in which hair oil is applied to the scalp and hair for some time, and then is rinsed out in the shower. The Kazani Intensive Hair & Scalp Oil is a great choice as it hydrates and strengthens the hair, while combating dryness and frizz. Applying the product to your scalp also adds nourishment that helps promote healthy hair, making it the best hair serum on the market.

  • Shampoo

Shampoo is the first step for hair care in the shower. The point of shampoo is to cleanse the scalp of build up such as sebum, dead skin, and product residue.1 Improper cleansing of the scalp can lead to unwanted oiliness, and even scalp irritations such as dandruff. It is very important to find a good shampoo that thoroughly cleanses the scalp, but does not strip the hair of its natural oils. The Kazani Revitalizing Shampoo is a great option for all hair types because it nourishes the hair while also gently cleansing, leaving the hair refreshed. It is also BHT/BHA and paraben free, making it a great clean option.

  • Conditioner

Conditioner would be the next step for hair care in the shower. The main goal of conditioner is to add moisture into the hair, but there are also other benefits such as tackling frizz, detangling, and adding shine.1 It is best to concentrate conditioner on the midsection and the ends of your hair, especially if you have thinner hair, as too much product in the scalp can weigh down the hair.3

  • Hair mask

Leave-in masks can be done at the end of your shower, and they are meant to be left in your hair for some time before rinsing. So, while you do other things in the shower, applying a leave-in mask and letting it sit in your hair will add extra nourishment. The Kazani Revitalizing Hair Mask is an excellent choice as it is deep conditioning and it increases the hair’s moisture. People who are looking to target dryness would definitely benefit from using a leave-in mask.

  • Miscellaneous products

Other products that can be added to a hair care routine can be used in different circumstances. For example, it is imperative to use heat protectant when using styling tools, but it is not necessary to use every day. A styling oil can also be used after heat to add shine back into the hair after putting heat to it.

There are certain lifestyle habits that also play into a strong hair care routine. Maintaining a healthy diet and controlling stress will positively impact the hair’s growth. It is also important to get regular trims every 6 to 8 weeks to cut off split ends and breakage.1 Additionally, only using heat and styling products on occasion and wearing your hair natural more often can promote healthy growth.1 Finally, using warm water instead of hot water will prevent the hair from drying out.1

Starting a hair care journey can be overwhelming, but it is definitely worth it for your hair’s health. There are a lot of components to it, but it is important to just start somewhere, and with time you will begin to see your hair transform.
