I wanted to talk to you about my morning beauty regimen. I learned about this beauty ritual while I was visiting Turkey. When I wake up in the morning, I do not splash water on my face. Instead, I do something else. I wash my face with Rose Water. So, what is rose water? Rose water is a flavored water made by steeping rose petals in water.
Aside from their beautiful fragrance and captivating appearance, roses hold great importance in the Ottoman Empire since the 1300s. They used it for many things including to flavor food and preparing cosmetics. The beautiful women in the harem applied it all the time.
In Isparta, Turkey, (where rose comes from) the rose is extracted from the oil and then the rest of it is turned into rose water. In the harem, the women cleaned their faces with rose water.
On my visit, I notice how the women in the villages in Isparta applied this ancient beauty ritual on their faces. I took their words into action and started applying it on my face morning and night. Ever since then, I don’t wash my face in the morning with water but I do wash it with rose water, a beauty ritual passed from generations.
